The key to choosing the perfect dress from the many prom dresses available is to choose a style that is right for your body type.
If you have an hourglass figure you may want to look into strapless or halter-top prom dresses. Also prom dresses with cinched waists and sashes will emphasis your curvy figure. Someone with a straight or boyish figure should look into A-line prom dresses that are a little fitted. Dresses with open shoulders and flared skirts will give you more curves, avoid body hugging and too tight dresses at all costs.
If you have a rounder figure then you should try on prom dresses with drop waists, low necklines, and empire cut prom dresses. Low necklines will help show off your bust and the drop waist will lengthen your torso and show your figure at its best advantage. A-line and empire cut prom dresses are the best for those with a pear shaped body as they balance out your body by creating length to the torso and legs.
When shopping for prom dresses you may need to look outside your normal size. If you are a six 10 then look at the size 8′s and 12′s. Each dress though having the same size will actually fit differently as each design is different. If you want to have a dress altered then buy a slightly larger dress as it is easier to take away fabric then add fabric.
